Item Description

An impressive, sharp, 3.5 x 3.3 x 2.8 cm, lustrous, brassy pyritohedron is dramatically set in the large clay matrix on this sculptural large specimen from this famous locale. The smaller pyrites are a nice accent. Pyrites from La Rioja are one of the most easily recognizeable and iconic display specimens in the world. They are highly attractive, and arguably the finest crystallized representations of the species. This area is mined almost exclusively for its pyrite crystals, which are world famous and well known among collectors. Note that in the process of excavation, the crystal came off the matrix and is thus reattached. The piece displays vertically very well without aid. An artistic large example with a large crystal.
