Pyrite (beautifully modified crystals!)

The famous Nanisivik Mine in Nunavut, Canada (officially separated from the Northwest Territories on April 1, 1999) lies on Baffin Island and is famous for producing some of the most unique and iconic Pyrite specimens ever found. They are beloved for not only their quality, but their fantastic modified crystals. It is common to find Pyrite crystals from this with multiple habits present, but they are also textbook in their form. This beautiful miniature features a coverage of superb quality, razor-sharp, highly lustrous, metallic / splendent crystals of brassy Pyrite measuring up to 8 mm on edge sitting on minor Sphalerite matrix. The predominant crystal habit exhibited are the large broad cube faces, but if you look closely, you'll see narrow pyritohedral modifying faces on the edges. An even closer look will reveal tiny modifications on each corner comprising a tiny triangular octahedral face surrounded by three thin trapezohedral faces. We've photographed the faces with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. Virtually every crystal on the display side is undamaged, and the only imperfections I can see with the naked eye are on the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. A fantastic specimen for any fan of sulfides, superbly crystallized specimens or crystal morphology.
