Item Description

Pyrites from Navajun are one of the most easily recognizeable and abundant display specimens in the world. They are highly attractive, and arguably the finest crystallized representations of the species. This aesthetic small cabinet is highlighted by the two, very well-placed, isolated cubes on the sculptural clay matrix. The lower, large crystal is 2.3 x 2.3 x 2.1 cm, and has a very nifty notch. The cubes are razor-sharp, brilliantly lustrous and have metallic pale golden color. The cubes are nearly pristine: the large cube has only a trivial spot of side wear; and the smaller cube has one modest spot of side wear and one corner of barely noticeable edge wear. This locality is mined almost exclusively for its pyrite crystals, which are world famous and well known among collectors. Note that in the process of excavation, most such crystals pop out and are thus reattached to the matrix (it is hard to tell on this piece). This is a top quality specimen in this size range for a representative specimen good enough for any collection! It displays well from several orientations, as the base has been sawed. Natural Cubist art. Impressive.
