Item Description

Pyrite is probably the most ubiquitous sulfide species in the world. It's literally found in thousands of localities in an incredibly diverse number of habits, but the crystals from the Navajun area in Spain are arguably the most easily recognizable and iconic examples of Pyrite in the world. The superb, classic textbook cubes are about as good as you will find for the species, both in terms of quality and quantity. They are highly attractive, and arguably the finest crystallized representations of the species extant, at least in cubic form. This piece features a group of razor-sharp, highly lustrous, metallic soft golden color cubes of Pyrite aesthetically intergrown, free of matrix. The largest crystal measures 2.7 cm on edge. There are a few rough spots, so the piece is not pristine, but still a nice overall example of these true classics from Spain. This locality is mined almost exclusively for its Pyrite crystals, which are world famous and well known among collectors, and pieces like this are wonderful representations of the material.
