Item Description

This razor-sharp machined-looking 1.5 cm tall cluster of sharp trigonal pyramidal metallic-gray pyrargyrite crystals resembles an impressive large fortification guarding a narrow European valley , perched on banded sulfides and quartz. Nearby smaller clusters of crystals are a fine accessory to this interesting matrix specimen from the historic rich silver mines at Fresnillo. (Thanks to well-known Mexico specialist and author, Peter Megaw, for confirming the locality). Ex Bill Panczner Collection and acquired in the 1960s to 1980s, probably. Bill was the first Curator of Earth Science at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum in 1974 and the author of the 1987 book Minerals of Mexico. It is the most thorough summary of the subject. Read about Bill in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive at: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?colid=841. Classic matrix Fresnillo pyrargyrite. See the 2003 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 34, No. 6.
