Item Description

Colquechaca has produced some of the finest sulfosalt specimens on the planet, particularly pyrargyrite. This is an outstanding and extremely rich example from the Howard Belsky Collection. Stout, lustrous, metallic-gray, hexagonal prisms to 1.2 x 1.1 cm richly and aesthetically encrust the front, top and back of the matrix. Bright light is needed to see the classic, light ruby silver color, but it is there. Classic, old-time material, as the heyday of this district was 1885-1920. $150 on the Lidstrom's from the 1970s was NOT cheap and shoudl translate today into a value of $2500 or more as the market has gone up on good things. Fairly valued today at $2000 at least, and regardless such a thing is seldom on the market, especially on the auction market. Our Christmas "spiker" for those who appreciate such rarities...
