Item Description

The historic mines at St. Andreasberg are famed for their silver sulfosalt specimens and this is an exceptional old-timer from the Herb Obodda Collection, # 1109. A striking, 4.2 cm cluster of sharp, lustrous, metallic-gray pyrargyrite crystals, to 1.0 cm, is dramatically set atop the very rich and hefty sulfide ore matrix. The 1.3 cm cluster of sharp smaller crystals is a super accent. All of the crystals within the large cluster are pristine. A single cleaved crystal is noted on one end and the pyrargyrite face on the other end is cleaved. This is an outstanding and rare large example of the species and renowned locale. You can see "ruby silver" color under very bright light. The specimen undoubtably dates to prior to World War I. SELDOM on the market in this size, richness and quality. Mass is 555 grams. Valued at $2500-3000.
