Item Description
The Sapphires from Amboarohy are some of the best matrix specimens from any locality. We first started seeing the mon the market the early 2000s, but almost nothing is available now. What makes these pieces special is the fact that the crystals have textbook euhedral form, with sharp faces and excellent luster, but perhaps the most alluring aspect is that they are notably colorful as well. It should be noted that the sharpness and luster seen in these pieces is rare when it comes to matrix Corundum specimens as crystals can often be rounded and dull from around the world. The fact that the crystals are on matrix is important, but the fine quality really pushes it to another level. Additionally virtually all of the Sapphires from this area display a color-change from sun to indoor lighting, and show good fluorescence as well. This small cabinet specimen hosts an excellent, sharp, rather lustrous, prismatic, hexagonal, eye-cacthing Sapphire crystal measuring 1.7 cm long sitting atop dark shimmering black Mica schist and white Calcite matrix. The crystal has a gorgeous purple color with a beautiful orange-pink hue on the termination. No damage, save one TINY little Wilber that I found when looking at the termination with a loupe. We haven't had many of these to offer in the last few years in the auctions and in terms of size and quality, this is a great example of these well-known and now very hard to find Corundums from Madagascar. Valued in the inventory at $1,250.
