Purple Apatite

When it comes to Apatite (specifically Fluorapatite), the most desirable and sought after hue is purple. Some of the most well-known and desirable classic examples of purple Apatite are those from the various pegmatite localities in Maine. The old Harvard Quarry (better known as the Noyes Mountain Quarry) has produced some iconic examples of this material, and this piece is a good representation. This miniature sized specimen hosts several sharp, lustrous, light purple color, prismatic crystals of Apatite measuring up to 3 mm sitting atop white colored Albite matrix. I love the distinct and beautiful striations that can be seen on the prisms of the Apatites. Good quality up close and certainly among the most eye-catching examples of Apatite, not only from Maine, but just about anywhere in the world.
