"Pumpkin" Calcite (NEW FIND 2019)

Certainly the most sculptural and dramatic of the so-called highly unusual "pumpkin orange" calcites, from a NEW, late 2018 find in Daye County (Hubei Province, near to Wuhan). An impressive, very large for the find, 3.7 cm rhomb is strikingly set on the end of the "neck" of the large artistic 360-degree piece. First generation dogtooth calcite crystals are peppered with a myriad of smaller second generation dogtooth crystals. Daye County is well-known for outstanding calcite specimens and this is an exceptional, uncommon color and style 360-degree specimen. The interior is nearly pristine, with only a few hard-to-see bruised crystals at the top, a gently bruised tip to the large crystal and the periphery wear, restricted to one side, is certainly acceptable in the context of this piece. Exceptional and most colorful 2-generation calcite from the limited find and the last specimen of the small lot we received. We found one more piece.
