"Pumpkin" Calcite (NEW FIND 2019)

Highly unusual and very pleasing richly color calcite, that we call "pumpkin orange", from a NEW, late 2018 find in Daye County (Hubei Province, near to Wuhan). This is a sculptural two generation small cabinet plate. The blocky crust of larger first generation, sharp, lustrous, translucent, dogtooth calcite crystals, to 2.5 cm, is strikingly overgrown with a myriad of smaller dogtooth rhombs. Daye County is well-known for outstanding calcite specimens and this is an exceptional, uncommon color and style 360-degree specimen. The interior is pristine and the periphery wear is certainly acceptable in the context of this piece.
