Item Description
Mineral specimens of ANY type are RARE from the numerous mines and prospects of this old Virginia Pb-Zn-Mn-Fe area. Psilomelane, an obsolete name for hard black manganese oxides is listed by MINDAT, but there are no photos in the Photo Gallery. Striking, increasing in size intergrown, lustrous, metallic-gray nubby botryoids are artistically set in the sculptural vug lined with contrasting drusy quartz. An adjacent patch of small submetallic crystals on the blocky massive psilomelane matrix is a fine accent. VERY RARE and excellent material from this less well-known district from the R.D. Mushlitz Collection. A MUST for the species or locality collector.
