Psilomelane (manganese oxide) (ex Shields Flynn Collection)

Item Description

Psilomelane used to be a valid species, but it is now an archaic name used for various black manganese oxide minerals. This piece is a nice representative specimen of Psilomelane from Brent Tor in Devon, England featuring a somewhat columnar group of dark brown stalactitic formations, free of matrix. There are some contacted areas, so the piece is not pristine, but you rarely see any Psilomelane specimens from Devon/Cornwall on the market. From the collection of Shields Flynn.
