Item Description

A wonderful display quality large miniature / small cabinet sized specimen of Pseudomalachite, from the type locality for the species in Germany. This piece features a predominant, resinous, dark green botryoidal group of Pseudomalachite atop the specimen, with additional Pseudomalachite sections on the sides piece, sitting on oxidized matrix. Pseudomalachite is distinguished from Malachite due to its chemistry as Malachite is a copper carbonate, and Pseudomalachite is a copper phosphate, but they look notably similar at first glance. Specimens from the Virneberg Mine (St Josephsberg Mine) in Rheinbreitbach are very few and far between, and if you've been searching for a rich specimen of this classic old material, look no further.
