Item Description

From the type locality for the species, here we have a rich sample of dark green botryoidal Pseudomalachite in Limonite. This material is distinguished from Malachite due to its chemistry as Malachite is a copper carbonate, and Pseudomalachite is a copper PHOSPHATE. Specimens from the Virneberg Mine (St Josephsberg Mine) in Rheinbreitbach are very few and far between, and if you've been searching for a rich specimen of this classic old material, look no further. A great piece for anybody who collects rarities, German minerals or species from the type locality. Valued at $500. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#2336). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
