Item Description

Pseudobrookite gets it name from the relation to Brookite, but instead of a chemical composition of titanium dioxide, there is some iron present in the case of Pseudobrookite. Several thin groups of sharp, brown-black color, prismatic crystals of Pseudobrookite with adamantine luster can be found sprinkled all over the underlying rhyolite matrix. There are some silvery-grey colored Hematite crystals for an added touch. The largest Pseudobrookite measures 8 mm long. Great quality up close, and a great example of this classic material from Utah. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #1656). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
