Item Description

One of the most desired of old Saxon silver species was the "ruby silver", proustite. Aesthetically emplaced on a sulfide and drusy quartz matrix are several very lustrous and slightly translucent, dark cherry red crystals, to 8 mm in length. The largest crystal appears to be twinned, and is perched high on its matrix. The crystals generally appear to be in good shape with only minor bruising on the back side of a few crystals. Lovely old specimen, from the collections of Harvard (by reliable source, though no label comes with it). ex George Elling Collection
