Item Description

From a small pocket collected in 2006 according to our source, this is an unusual specimen in several regards. Firstly, it is just a very rich proustite for a Mexican locale (though other silver minerals are common enough for Mexico, proustite surely is RARE). Secondly, there is a 5 mm fragment of a gypsum crystal near the base, next to proustite and attached to the massive acanthite matrix. Most of the bright proustites are damaged, but there are some remarkably clean faces that show the glorious cherry-red color with fine gemminess. The back shows a bruised, oxidized proustite crystal, that is 1.5 cm long! All in all, a most unusual specimen, rare and desirable Mexican proustite. valued $1000-1250
