Item Description
Proustite is a world-wide iconic and Holy Grail species from the famous and extinct silver and silver sulfosalt mines of Chanarcillo, Chile. This sculptural intergrown thumbnail mass of crystals and crystal sections. to 1.4 cm, has bright, rich ruby-silver wine-red color under normal light and gorgeous, rich cherry-red translucence, when backlit. The incredibly rich mines were discovered in 1832 and were exhausted by the early 1900s. The rich and excellent specimen probably dates to the 1860s to 1880s. Chanarcillo proustites are rarely available and are always highly desired. Comes with an over 100 year-old label. See the 1979 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 10, No. 4. A must for any silver species or Chile collector. Valued at $1250-1500.
