Item Description

The trap rock quarries of New Jersey have produced an abundance of good Prehnite in the past and this three-dimensional piece is a great example. Satin lustered, elongate to botryoidal aggregates of light apple-green Prehnite, resembling stubby fingers (these are actually casts after earlier anhydrite, with the anhydrite mostly missing now), are mounded up and then sprinkled with snow-white, 2 to 5 mm isolated prisms of Laumontite for great contrast and aesthetics. There is evidence on the bottom of the piece that these Prehnites could be hollow casts after Anhydrite upon which these "fingers" form. The specimen is nearly pristine with only contacting around the periphery of the piece and it displays nicely on its own.
