Item Description

Lane's Quarry is arguably the most famous locality for Babingtonite in the United States, and it's also a source for some fine quality crystallized Prehnites. This piece features a plate of good green color aggregates of Prehnite which play host to a single, 1.3 cm, sharp, GEM QUALITY, euhedral, textbook, colorless Datolite crystal along with a few clusters of white Apophyllite crystals measuring up to 2.1 cm across. The quality of the Datolite crystal is as good as I've seen from the locality, it's such a jewel! The periphery of the specimen is rough where it was removed from the pocket wall, but it doesn't take away from the superior quality of the excellent Datolite crystal. If you collect trap rock minerals, specimens from New England or you simply like fine crystallized examples of particular species, this is a great one to add to your collection. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. Lemanski Jr. of Browns Mills, New Jersey (https://www.mindat.org/user-461.html). Collection #18533CL. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
