Item Description
The Millington Quarry is located in the Third Watchung Mountain (Hook Mountain) of Northern New Jersey, and is one of the most well-known trap rock localities in the state. It dates back to 1895, and only closed recently, to be filled in for housing. Despite its longevity, Millington really didn't start producing specimens until the 1980s, and for the better part of 30 years, was a great source of unique and distinctive zeolites and associated minerals. This piece is an attractive translucent spherical group of light yellow-green Prehnite, free of matrix, but if you flip it over, you'll see narrow, striated, hollow "casts" which have formed after preexisting Anhydrite (which was later dissolved away), and then small "jewel"-like crystals of Fluorapophyllite-(K) were deposited, creating a very eye-catching effect. The piece is in very good shape, and is a wonderful representation of this now very hard to find material.
