Item Description
This piece comes to us from the recent discovery (2019) in the renowned Merelani Hills of Tanzania. The classic yellow colored "balls" of Prehnite that have come out of this area for a while, along with the newer blue bladed crystals of Prehnite are more widely known, but the pieces from this latest find are distinct, well-separated, excellent crystals. The color is a soft greenish-hue, but it's you can see that there is also a silvery color throughout the majority of the piece, which is caused by Graphite inclusions. Most of the crystals are fairly gemmy on the tips with sharp, lustrous faces and an almost "broadsword"-shaped habit. The largest individual Prehnite measures about 1.8 cm long. It's nice to see the separation between each crystal, so you can examine them up close. Yes, there are some bruises that prevent the piece from being 100% damage free, but it's good sized, showy and features a new style (and unusual color) for Prehnite from this important gem producing district. if you're a fan of minerals of Tanzania or worldwide Prehnites, be sure to pick this one up.
