Item Description
This Trap Rock locality is one of the most impressive (and under appreciated) Zeolite localities in the world. This quarry has produced some amazing specimens in the last 100 years, including some impressive Prehnite specimens. Typically the Prehnites from Prospect Park are green, and rarely yellow or blue, but ORANGE is NOT common! This particular specimen is an unusual display piece consisting soft yellow-orange color crystallized groups of Prehnite on minor matrix. When the piece is backlit, there is a spot where the color comes through. One of the very few orange Prehnites I have seen from this locality. It would make a great addition to any Prehnite suite or a collection of minerals from New Jersey. The piece was collected circa 1950-1965, and comes from the collection of Hobart Jones. It must be noted that Prospect Park will never produce any more specimens in a very short period of time. The quarry is currently being backfilled to make room for housing developments, and will soon be nothing more than a memory.
