Prehnite pseudomorph after Laumontite (ex Dr. Wouter van Tichelen Collection)

Item Description

An interesting "cast" / pseudomorph from an undisclosed locality in Watchung, New Jersey featuring very gemmy, colorless crystal clusters of orthorhombic Prehnite replacing preexisting prismatic crystals of Laumontite on matrix. The most well known Prehnite "casts" from Watchung are the famous specimens from the Fanwood Quarry, but this piece does not look anything like that material, so it's probably from a one-off discovery. After looking closely with a loupe, I can see several small colorless rhombic Calcite crystals on the piece as well. The longest "cast" measures 1.6 cm.
