Item Description
Trap Rock quarries of New Jersey are often well-known for their superb Prehnite "casts", or epimorphs - studied and collected by all the great mineralogists of the East Coast as mineralogy developed as a science here in the 1800s. The large majority of these casts form as Prehnite after Anhydrite, but some of them form as Prehnite after Glauberite, which is an occurence exceptionally difficult to find. The Fanwood Quarry (Weldon Quarry) has produced some of the most magnificent Prehnite after Glauberite "casts" in the world. This specimen is a choice example of this material featuring dozens of mint-green, lustrous, crystallized Prehnite "casts" after rhombic-shaped Glauberite, all on basalt matrix. The Prehnite crystals sparkle as they resemble green sugar crystals. A truly fine, quite large small cabinet specimen with very good aesthetics. Sparkly, in person!
