Prehnite on Quartz (rare locality)

Item Description

This is an impressive and showy example of these seldom seen Prehnites from the El Hamman Mine (erroneously originally labeled as coming from Khemisset like many pieces back in the day). This full sized cabinet display specimen features a predominant, 6.3 cm, spherical group of medium "water"-green colored Prehnite comprising hundreds of distinct individual orthorhombic crystals,, along with a smaller "sidecar" group of Prehnite on gemmy, prismatic, white/colorless Quartz crystals on matrix. No major damage, and the sphere of Prehnite on this piece is the largest I've seen from the locality. I would value this one in the $1,200-$1,500 range. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#147 M), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
