Item Description

This piece comes to us from the recent discovery (2019) in the renowned Merelani Hills of Tanzania. This small cabinet has a notably different habit than we're used to seeing for Prehnites from this area. The classic yellow colored "balls" of Prehnite that have come out of this area for a while, along with the newer blue bladed crystals of Prehnite are more widely known, but the pieces from this latest find are blocky and distinct with well-separated, excellent crystals. The color is a lovely yellowish-green and most of the crystals are fairly gemmy with sharp, lustrous faces and an almost "broadsword"-shaped habit. The largest individual Prehnite measures about 2.3 cm long. It's nice to see the separation between each crystal, so you can examine them up close. Yes, there are some bruises that prevent the piece from being 100% damage free, but it's very good sized, showy and features a new style for Prehnite from this important gem producing district. If you flip the piece over, you can see a thin layer of metallic grey Graphite. It's still a good quality Prehnite, and if you're a fan of minerals of Tanzania or worldwide Prehnites, be sure to pick this one up.
