Item Description

This piece hails from a discovery in 2019 in the famed Merelani Hills of Tanzania (the same locality where the world-class Tanzanites have been found). Here we have a really eye-catching specimen of Prehnite with a notably different habit than we're used to seeing from the locale. I'm sure a lot of people are familiar with the yellow colored "balls" of Prehnite that have come out of this area for a while, or even the newer blue bladed crystals of Prehnite, but the pieces from this latest find are blocky, distinct / well-separated with excellent crystallization. The color on this piece is a lovely yellowish-green and most of the crystals are gemmy with sharp, lustrous faces and an almost "broadsword"-shaped habit. The largest individual Prehnite measures about 1.3 cm long. I really like how there is a bit of room between each crystal, so you can examine them up close. A handful of bruises prevent the piece from being 100% damage free, but it's good sized, showy and features a new style for Prehnite from this important gem producing district. The underside of the specimen features a thin layer of metallic grey Graphite. Good quality overall, and a must have for anybody who collects Tanzanian material or worldwide Prehnites.
