Item Description

This classic trap rock locality is one of the most impressive (and under appreciated) Zeolite localities in the world. This quarry has produced some amazing specimens in the last 100 years, including some of the finest Prehnites in the world. This particular specimen is a fantastic, large group of GEMMY, lustrous, fine green to blue-green color spherical aggregates of Prehnite on basalt matrix. Rarely does one encounter a large display specimen like this with great visual appeal, and a full coverage of such fine quality Prehnite. The entire plate consists of these attractive spheres, and virtually all of them are undamaged. The luster is great for the material and the piece sparkles in the light. The piece displays wonderfully without the aid of a base or clay. This impressive Prehnite was once part of the famous collection of Richard Kosnar, who arguably assembled one of the finest collections of New Jersey trap rock minerals. The piece was probably collected over 40 years ago, and stands as one of the best quality large cabinet specimens that I have offered in the auctions. Also, there is good separation between the spheres, adding a great aesthetic appeal to this fantastic specimen. Valued at $1250-$1500.
