Item Description
The Jeffrey Mine is obviously well-known for its amazing Grossular and Vesuvianite specimens, but it doesn't get enough credit for providing colletors with some attractive Prehnites as well. Most people are familiar with boytroidal or semi-spherical green Prehnite from various localities around the world, but the Jeffrey Prehnites are notably colorless / white and have actually formed in fine quality, prismatic euhedral crystals. This piece features sharp, prismatic, whitish crystals of Prehnite on minor matrix. The largest crystal measures 1.0 cm long. The crystals have a mostly white color on the exterior, with a bit of translucency inside. No real damage that I can see. If you've ever wanted a nice display specimen of Jeffrey Prehnite, don't miss out on this one. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #320) with a label from Andrea Citran of Italy. Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
