Item Description
These are some of the most distinctive and easily recognizable Prehnite specimens from the modern age of mineral collecting. They also features some of the best green colors you'll see for the species as they are often rather saturated and not "pastel". This piece is a solid group of comprising rounded clusters of crystallized "clamshells" of translucent rich color Prehnite to create this attractive small cabinet display specimen. The underside of the piece has some hollow "casts" where preexisting Quartz or Calcite crystals once grew. The top of the specimen appears to have a bit of black Schorl in a few spots for a nice contrast. There is a bit of roughness where the piece looked to have grown against the pocket wall and has some separation marks once it was removed. A worthwhile specimen of this contemporary classic material. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. Lemanski Jr. of Browns Mills, New Jersey (https://www.mindat.org/user-461.html). Collection #6501CL. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
