Item Description
Of the various trap rock quarries in New Jersey, the UBC (Union Building and Construction) Quarry is actually most noted for producing fossilized dinosaur tracks in the mudstone and shales below the basalt. Recently some attractive and impressive Prehnites have come out of this quarry, including these distinctive pieces featuring beautiful isolated "spheres" on matrix. This piece hosts a lovely green color spherical aggregate of Prehnite measuring 1.0 cm across, and perched at the top of the sedimentary rock matrix. A few smaller, incomplete "spheres" of Prehnite can be seen on the reverse side of the piece (not pictured). A cool and hard to find display quality matrix Prehnite specimen from this well known quarry in northern New Jersey.
