Item Description

During 1969 and 1970, the I-80 (Route 80) roadcut produced some attractive zeolites and associated species, as the extension through the first Watchung Mountain took place right next to the New Street Quarry. This specimen was collected by Richard Kosnar in March of 1970 and features brilliantly green, botryoidal Prehnite which has formed a distinctive and sharp "cast" or perimorph after preexisting Anhydrite. The piece has a light dusting of white Laumontite for a nice touch. The piece was part of Rich Kosnar's personal collection, and retains his catalogue number Preh370 on the reverse side of the specimen. A great Trap Rock display specimen from this significant New Jersey locality.
