A classic piece of the famous Precious Opal from the renowned locality at Virgin Valley. This piece is a notably rare three-dimensional specimen featuring sections of translucent Precious Opal which show beautiful flashes of color when rotated in the light. You can see small reflections of yellow, gold, orange, red, green and blue in reflected light, but when it's backlit, the color changes to rich golden and orange hues. The Opal needs a decent amount of light to show off the color, but it's really pretty when viewed up close. This material is nearly impossible to obtain these days, and is very worthwhile for collectors because it's not just a mineral specimen, nor a gem but a combination of both. From the collection of Richard Kosnar (1946-2007), well-known mineral dealer and collector from Colorado, and the namesake for the phosphate species, Kosnarite.
