Item Description
Opal has been beloved by many world cultures for centuries. According to the GIA webiste, "Many cultures have credited opal with supernatural origins and powers. Arabic legends say it falls from the heavens in flashes of lightning. The ancient Greeks believed opals gave their owners the gift of prophecy and guarded them from disease. Europeans have long considered the gem a symbol of hope, purity, and truth". Opal is one of the most diverse gems out there. It's one of the few stones that looks just as attractive when it's crystal clear as it does when the stones are opaque. Despite it's rather simplistic chemistry, Opals show a great range of color in many varieties. This "Pear Cabochon" cut gem is what is often called "Crystal Opal", with a white background hosting flashes of pink orange, yellow, green and puprle which show up in reflected light. As you can see, the stone shows good color all over, and it's important to mention that this is a solid Opal, not a doublet or a triplet, which makes a difference when it comes to the value. Priced at $1,177.50 retail.
