Opals are one of the great old gems from antiquity. Ancient Greek lore said that it was believed that Opal gave powers of foresight to its own, and old Arabian stories say that Opal got its color when the stone fell from heaven in flashes of lightning. Ancient Romans, saw the gem as a physical representation of purity and hope. Opal is one of the most diverse gems out there because it's one of the few stones that looks just as attractive when it's crystal clear as it does when the stones are opaque. Despite it's rather simplistic chemistry, Opals show a great range of color in many varieties. This "Oval Cabochon" cut gem is what is often called "Crystal Opal", with a white background hosting flashes of pink, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple which show up in reflected light. As you can see, the stone shows good color all over, and it's important to mention that this is a solid Opal, not a doublet or a triplet, which makes a difference when it comes to the value.
