Item Description
Opal has a rather simplistic chemistry, it's essentially Quartz with water content, but it's a notably diverse and interesting mineral for that fact that can range from opaque to completely transparent, and is found in ever color of the rainbow. Some of the more desirable examples of the beautiful Precious Opals that feature dazzling multi-color flashes. Going back several years ago, the Tsehay Mewcha area (comprising countless small mines) in Ethiopia produced some amazing pieces of multi-color Precious Opal. These specimens are some of the most brilliantly colorful and eye-catching pieces of Opal from any locality in decades. This piece is a wonderful specimen featuring a gemmy patch of Precious Opal with eye-catching flashes of blue, green and gold, red when rotated in the light. Even in low light, the color flash is visible and beautiful. Interestingly, you can see a dark reddish-brown section in the Opal, where clearly the chemistry changed when it was forming, creating a stark contrast of hues and qualities within the piece. Specimen weight is 3.66 grams.
