Typically the stones that we see labeled as "Crystal Opal" are more on the opaque side, which is perfectly acceptable, but the MOST desirable material are the GEMMY stones that show multi-color flash like this gem. Opal is one of the most diverse minerals/gems out there. It's one of the few that looks just as attractive when it's crystal clear as it does when the stones are opaque. Despite the rather simplistic chemistry, Opals show a great range of color in many varieties. This stone has a light golden hue internally when backlit, but in reflected light it plays host to flashes of green, yellow, gold, blue and purple when it's rotated around. It's really hard to replicate the brilliance in photos or a video, but it's a wonderful example to be sure. The stone is a solid Opal, with no enhancement or backing to help the color, which means something when it comes to value as solid Opals command higher prices on the market. The piece weighs 12.95 carats (2.59 grams).
