Despite it's rather simplistic chemistry, Opals show a great range of color in many varieties. This "Oval Cabochon" cut gem is what is often called "Crystal Opal", with a white background hosting brilliant multicolor flashes of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet which show up in reflected light. As you can see, the stone shows good color all over, and it's important to mention that this is a solid Opal, not a doublet or a triplet, which makes a difference when it comes to the value, as solid Opals are always worth more than doublets or triplets.
