Item Description
A classic specimen of the beautiful, hard to find Opals from Opal Butte, Oregon. This piece features zones / banding which range from virtually colorless and gemmy to more translucent / opaque with creamy golden and yellow hues. The colorless gemmier section of the piece is not terribly common in my experience, as a lot of them are often more opaque with the golden hues. We bought this piece directly from the man who mined it, and I know for a fact it's a genuine Opal Butte specimen. I can see some very tiny iridescent "rainbow" flashes in the upper section when the piece is rotated in the light. This is certainly one of the better pieces of this material that we've had to offer in the auctions in terms of clarity and color. These specimens are some of my favorite Opals from any US locality, and this attractive specimen would make a great addition to a suite of Opals ore cryptocrystalline mineral collection. Specimen weight is 14.02 grams.
