Prasiolite (Green Quartz)

Please note: This material is not naturally occurring like the "Prasem" Quartz from Russia or Greece. This material is Amethyst which by a combination of heat treatment and cobalt-60 or E-beam Gamma irradiation creates gems with a green color. It's important to note that this stone has been treated to create the color. This is not to say that there is not natural green Quartz out there, but the stuff that is being marketed as "Prasiolite" in the gem world is typically treated. This is not green Amethyst either. The word Amethyst is indicative of color, so as far as I'm concerned, Amethyst is purple and this is simply green Quartz. With that said, this material has made a real splash over in the gem and jewelry world. This particular stone is a very attractive, large, virtually eye clean, soft green color gem with a lovely "oval brilliant" cut. Enjoy. Retail price on this gem $960.80.
