Item Description

Powellite is the rarest and most desirable mineral from the famed basalts of the Deccan Traps of India. This sharp and textbook specimen features a 3 cm tall, very sharp dipyramid crystal of highly lustrous, striated, and gemmy to translucent Powellite. And if that wasn't enough, it is decorated with Stilbite, including a 1.9 cm doubly-terminated blade that transects one termination of the Powellite. Naturally, the Powellite has the classic, brilliant creamy yellow fluorescence it is known for. This fine small miniature is from the Indian discovery of the late 1970s - Pandulena Hill, Nasik, and likely dates from that time period. This is a beautiful, highly representative specimen of the species and locality. ex George Elling Collection.
