Item Description
Polysphaerit is the VERY RARE, uncommon calcium-rich variety of pyromorphite. One pocket in the famous Bunker Hill Mine in the mid-1990s produced a few specimens, such as this, which were validated at the time and have a distinct look to them. Juicy, wet-look, dark tan polysphaerit botryoids and orangier arsenian-pyromorphite botryoids cover the undulating crust on this rare and excellent, display-quality specimen. The large calcium-rich botryoid at the crest is 9 mm. While the coloration is perhaps not as showy as more traditional pyromorphite crystal forms from this renowned locale, this remains a very uncommon and highly desirable varietal of pyromorphite. The back of this very fine piece has a much higher percentage of polysphaerit, though both sides are fairly showy. This is only the 3rd really good example we have seen for sale. Double your pleasure and rarity. This was once a full species, apparently, circa 1832 (Breithaupt). Valued $900-1250. ex John Rodakis Collection of Dallas, TX
