Item Description
Polyhalite is a rare hydrated K-Ca-Mg-sulfate. Specimens are relatively rare worldwide and are rare from Saxony-Anhalt in Germany. This one is from a very rare locality - Beendorf. The pretty pink color on the massive, layered sculptural OLD ore specimen is caused by iron oxide inclusions. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 7331 and acquired in July, 1974. Ex Harvard Collection, according to the note on the back of her label and comes with two old faded labels. Her label is incorrect. The piece is not from Lower Saxony. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Probably from the obscure Marie Shaft in Morsleben, which is very near Beendorf. RARE, perhaps unique century-old material.
