Item Description
A nice association specimen from the classic locality for Tourmaline, the Isle of Elba (the namesake for the Tourmaline species Elbaite). This piece features several multi-colored Tourmaline crystals showing a mix of black, greenish-yellow and colorless zones sitting among slightly smoky, very sharp, highly lustrous, GEMMY Quartz crystals with a bit of associated white Orthoclase. In one of the photos, you can see a tiny band of a light blue hue near the termination of one of the Tourmaline crystals. The largest Tourmaline measures 5 mm long. It's more of a reference piece than anything, but the true selling point of the specimen is that it is accompanied by a beautiful old hand-written label. According to Kay's label, she obtained the specimen in 1964 from somebody named Krautz. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4159). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
