Item Description
Beautiful shimmering golden chatoyance on this classic, polished, layered slab of Tiger's Eye from the well-known primary source of this material. Tiger's Eye is a combination of limonite, quartz and riebeckite. This is the common name for a variety of quartz which is chatoyant because of parallel intergrowth of quartz crystals and altered amphibole fibres that mostly turned into limonite (MINDAT). It is famous and much used as an ornamental and lapidary rock. Ex Kay Robertson Collection, with no number, as it was misplaced in the move. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Comes with two older labels in French. Classic and excellent lapidary material. 22 grams mass.
