Item Description
A highy unusual ichnofosssil (trace fossil) from Scotland, near Edinburgh. It is a coprolite (fossilized poop) from a large fish from the Carboniferous (~350 MYA). It is possibly came from the prehistoric lobe-finned fish, Megalichthys. The coprolite has been cut in half and is highly polished. Bright brassy pyrite adds character to this scuptural and unusual trace fossil. The fossil molluscs or brachiopods attached to the outside are a bonus. Ex Ted Bartels Collection.
