Item Description

The outer rind of this colorful and sculptural large sliced and polished agate end nodule hosts an exotic interior of bright red to orange banding and botryoids surrounding a large free-form, translucent core of banded blue, gray and green agate with interesting interior white blebs. SURPRISINGLY, one of the outer bands and a few botryoids are included with neon-green, SW UV Hyalite Opal fluorescence. This excellent agate is from the area of the Semipalatinsk Test Site in Kazakhstan. The Soviet Union conducted 456 nuclear tests from 1949 to 1989 here. The town was later renamed Semey. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semipalatinsk_Test_Site for more interesting information. MINDAT list the locale as: https://www.mindat.org/loc-420431.html or the May agate occurrence, Pavlodar Region, Kazakhstan. Mass is 1046 grams or 2.3 pounds. Ex Kurt Hefendehl Russian specimen No. 651. Kurt is a well-known German collector who amassed a world-wide collection of over 6000 pieces. Choice material from the locale with a bonus.
