Item Description

Aesthetically and sculpturally clustered on a bit of matrix, a striking 3.9 cm, "pokerchip" calcite crystal dominates this very showy small cabinet from a recent Chinese find. The lustrous, tabular, hexagonal crystals are composed of two generations of calcite - water-clear colorless inner zones with waxy luster outer layers. The edge views reveal interesting crystal chemistry. The large rhomb is pristine. The contacted edge, has no damage, per se and is certainly only a modest detraction.
